The mission of the Department of Agronomy is to enhance the intellectual, cultural, social and professional development of its students and researchers, who in turn will extend the present limit of agricultural know how, insight, and understanding about existing research and deliver the fruits of research to the people. To establish and promote high quality teaching, problem oriented research and technology transfer in the field of Agronomy in order to address the fundamental questions of Crop Production. The department teaching program is divided into three parts; undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate. The undergraduate program serves all the students of the university, whereas, the graduate and postgraduate programs are offered to those specializing in Agronomy.
Within the framework of the Department and subject to annual review, the following units performed specialized teaching functions.
1. Crop Production
2. Crop Physiology
3. Seed Technology
4. Arid Zone Agronomy
(ii) Crop Physiology: Careers building through high quality teaching, research and professional activities in the areas of, Plant Physiology, Crop physiology, Physiology of crops under stress, Seed physiology, Physiology of growth and development, Physiology of crop yield, Advanced crop nutrition, Advanced crop physiology, and Plant metabolism and bio-energetics.
(iii) Seed Technology
Seed Technology covers all the technical and support activities involving the role and concept of seed technology, structure of seed, seed germination, seed dormancy, seed production of self and cross-pollinated crops, production of single, double and three-way cross seed, and field inspections. Information on laboratory standards for seed, seed certification procedures, Pakistan's seed certification system, seed legislation, seed health testing, seed tests for purity, germination, moisture and vigour, seed processing, drying, cleaning and grading, seed treatment and seed storage are provided.
(iv) Arid Zone Agronomy
Deals with the courses like, cultural practices and pre-requisite of cultivars for profitable un-irrigated/dry/rainfed farming,
