A recent study by UoH students reveals how beauty salons may risk human health

A recent study conducted by a team of researchers led of Dr. Syed Muhammad Ali at Department of Microbiology of The University of Haripur has revealed some shocking findings about the beauty industry. The study focused on the presence of pathogenic microbes in beauty products and tools used in beauty salons that may possibly lead to the spread of viral, fungal, and bacterial infections among those attending such beauty salons. The beauty products and accessories used in the salons are being shared among different customers who are visiting these salons. The skin bacteria from one person may be transmitted to the other customers, while the the products and accessories (such as brushes etc.) may act as reservoirs.

The study was part of master’s thesis of two students Ms. Muskan Shehzadi and Miss Nayab Shehzadi who collected a number of 200 samples from beauty salons in Haripur city that included beauty products and tools. The results of the study were alarming, as 75% of the samples tested positive for strains of pathogenic bacteria such as MRSA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli and Streptococcus epidermidis.
These findings suggest that the use of beauty products and tools in salons can lead to the spread of potentially harmful microorganisms, which can cause a range of infections. It is therefore important for beauty salons to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and hygiene of their products and tools, including regular cleaning and disinfection.

Consumers should also be cautious when using beauty products and tools, and should ensure that they are purchasing products from reputable brands and that are properly cleaned and disinfected before use. Overall, the resultsthis study highlights the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices in the beauty industry to prevent the spread of infections and ensure the safety of consumers.
